Way back when…W4TJE inquired about putting up his Rohn 45G tower with his 15M Yagi stack, but I couldn’t meet his time schedule, so he hired some other locals to do it. It’s never worked right, & he’s been adamant that I could fix it for him. Such devotion & desire can certainly raise your sense of self-worth, but when I learned that all three Yagis were different, I feared the solution might not be something I could do.
But away we went–building a set of odd quarter wavelength feedlines, to include a short jumper from the beam to the tower (always a good idea–that way you can always TEST not only the beam, but the coax itself). The tower installation is not/was not quite the way I would have done it, bu that’s beside the point. Removed the old coax (9913) on the way up, then began the laborious process of removing a beam, tilting it up & over, installing the new jumper, then weather-proofing everything securely, & then re-installing it. Spent six hours all told on the tower getting all that done, which seems like a lot, but working alone almost always takes you longer than you’d think it would. I must say, the tower looks a lot cleaner & neater. A quick analyzer study seems to indicate overall SWRs have improved, so fingers are crossed that once the Stack-Match is re-connected, the system will play like it was intended.
Next week, WA2BCK’s installation.
stay tuned…
