While out in Gaston County this afternoon, gathering up stuff to take with me next week to Northern VA, I stumbled across a phone in the grass. “Wow,” I tell myself, “this could be real evidence against the thieves!” (This is a polite, non-curse-word-laden description of a rather vicious reaction on my part…)
Since I’ve been robbed yet again, while the two thieves reside in jail (they obviously have friends), I figured perhaps we can put a new battery in the phone & it will provide a wealth of information–something like real CLUES. I carefully gather it up. I even drive into town to buy some Ziplok bags to store it in. I then drive into Gastonia to the County Police station building to file a report & turn it in. I sit in the lobby & wait 30 minutes for a policeman to show up. We head in to a small room & I begin to describe the day & what I’m thinking about everything, until he picks up the bag & says, “This is a department phone.” And proceeds to unclip something from his belt to show me one exactly like it. Apparently, one of the 12 cops who showed up at my site on June 24th DROPPED it there in the grass! Talk about deflated emotions & yet another layer or level of frustration.
I had to laugh. It was either that or break down in tears right there in the investigation room.
stay tuned…
